about

White Willow started out as a folk-rock band in the mid-Nineties, but has since then become Norway's most prominent progressive rock band, and a leading exponent of the Scandinavian progressive sound along with Anglagard and Anekdoten. They are now the best-selling band on the Laser’s Edge imprint.

White Willow has been named "one of the most significant progressive groups of the current era" by The Billboard Guide to Progressive Music, and "the Mazzy Star of prog" by College Music Journal. Their debut effort “Ignis Fatuus”, even garnered a stellar review from Burrn!, Japan’s leading metal magazine. They have played world-renowned festivals such as Progfest and NEARfest, and have headlined France's Crescendo Festival.

Over the course of four albums their music has evolved from a soft, pastoral sound based around female vocals, mellotron, woodwinds and acoustic guitars, to a more gothic-tinged electric and rock-based approach, with heavier guitars being especially prominent on the band's new offering, the turbulent “Storm Season”.

With an influx of new members, bandleader Jacob Holm-Lupo was able to create something more modern but still appealing to their core progressive rock fanbase. The music now owes as much to Black Sabbath as it does King Crimson or The Gathering.

To drive home the point that “Storm Season” marked a change in direction for the band, the Killustrations design team of Germany was enlisted to create the visually arresting package.

The members of White Willow are constantly involved in other projects as well, including jazz/electronica pioneers Jaga Jazzist, psychedelic rockers Motorpsycho and the symphonic rock group Wobbler.
