about

Sensory Records welcomes Norwegian progressive metal quintet WITHEM to the label’s roster, as the up-and-coming act prepares to release their debut full-length in Europe on October 4th and North America on October 10th.

Withem is an upcoming progressive metal band hailing from Norway inspired by the likes of Symphony X, Pagan’s Mind, Dream Theater and Circus Maximus.

The band had its inception in 2011 when Øyvind Voldmo Larsen (guitars) and Ketil Ronold (keyboards) met the remarkable drummer Frank Nordeng Røe. Shortly they were joined by the voice talent Ole Aleksander Wagenius. For the album, bass was recorded by the special guest Andreas Blomqvist from Seventh Wonder. Recently the band found the current live bass player, Miguel Pereira.

The passion and dedication put into the album is emphasized by the countless hours spent in studio perfecting each individual performance and making sure that the end result is a world class blend of progressive, symphonic and power metal.

Withem’s music offers varied sonic landscapes for the listener to explore, weather with its elaborate interplay between all musicians or with straightforward power metal anthems. It ranges from guilty-pleasure choruses permeated with memorable vocal hooks (Born to Live), to symphonic epic themes (Paramount of Lies). Overall there are over 50 minutes worth of thrills and melody-driven songs, without drifting into the clichés of overly long instrumental sections and sheer complexity for complexity sake. The unique vocal range of Ole Aleksander Wagenius gives the band a much-needed distinctive touch to tackle the overcrowded progressive metal scene.

Produced and mixed by Øyvind Voldmo Larsen @ Lionheart Studio, the album sounds powerful and bombastic with enough raw moments for the listener to notice the most subtle intricate parts.

As in any art form, many times the hard-work and dedication go unrewarded apart from the esteem of the established fans. With that said, Withem clearly aims high and is now looking for the perfect partner to release the album worldwide and start promoting the album on stages in Norway and across Europe.

In August 2012 Withem opened for a Pagan’s Mind show in Oslo with positive feedback from the press (http://www.hardharderheavy.de): “You could feel that they were dying to present songs from their new album. It is amazing how Scandinavian countries consistently produce great Metal talents who form newcomer bands like Withem, whose style can be compared to Pagan's Mind and made a great opener this way. Withem sound really good and their stage presence is professional, so let's see what the future brings for these guys”

Based on the first impact made by the album teasers and demo tracks, expectations are running high within the progressive and power metal scene.
